  • GBBF at Your Local 2021 Sunday 4 July 2021

Let’s get back to the pub in with the Great British Beer Festival at Your Local this summer!

East and Mid Surrey CAMRA is urging people to visit pubs this summer under the banner of the Great British Beer Festival, supporting them after a year of restrictions.

In the absence of a single Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) event this year due to COVID-19, the campaigning organisation is encouraging licensees to hold events and activities celebrating live beer and real cider as part of a Great British Beer Festival at Your Local event, taking place from 30 July – 8 August, just a week after the proposed date that restrictions are set to end. GBBF at Your Local hopes to present the very best that the nation’s pubs, clubs, breweries and cider producers have to offer.

This campaign hits right at the heart of CAMRA and hopes to help encourage footfall to pubs and clubs and increase demand for brewers and cider-makers. In previous years, GBBF has attracted over 38,000 attendees, and CAMRA are hoping that in the year that the industry needs it most, those beer and cider lovers will come out to support independent and local businesses.

  • Cider Month May 2021 Saturday 1 May 2021

CAMRA celebrates Cider and Perry Months in May and October. Unlike real ale production, which can happen at any time of the year, real cider and perry can only be made when the fruit is ripe and is tied to a natural cycle of the apple and pear trees found in orchards around the country.

May was chosen because it is when the orchards bloom and begin producing fruit which will then be harvested. It is also when cider and perry production in the previous year reaches maturity and can start being enjoyed.

October is also a very active time for cider makers when production is in full flow and most cider producers are harvesting the fruit.

  • Cask is Back, So Back Cask Friday 9 April 2021

A new campaign has been launched calling on beer drinkers to back British brewing and pubs and opt for a pint of fresh cask beer from a local independent brewery when they return to pubs next week.

Sales of hand-pulled cask beer, which can only be sold in pubs, have been hit hard by Coronavirus restrictions – with sales of this fresh British beer down 70% over the last twelve months – but this new campaign is seeking to reverse those fortunes and has the backing of brewers, beer drinkers and publicans alike.

The 'Cask is BACK, so back CASK' campaign has been launched by the Society of Independent Brewers, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the British Institute of Innkeeping, and Cask Marque – who are championing Britain’s National drink, which can only be enjoyed down the pub.
